What does saliva have to do with my fertility?
A saliva monitor measures changes in the electrolytes in saliva, which indicates hormonal changes (such as estrogen) that begin before ovulation. As ovulation draws near, saliva begins to take on a ferning, crystal-like pattern that can be seen with a saliva monitor. This ferning pattern can be used to predict when you will ovulate, and help pinpoint your 5 most fertile days.
You can manually score your images. See the above detailed image for an example. The user manual will have detailed instructions on how to rate your images. But in general terms they will be rated as a 1, 2 or 3.
Score of 1 : Not fertile, ovulation is not near.
Score of 2 : Transitional. Small ferning patterns begin to appear. Ovulation may occur in about 3 days. You can begin trying to conceive.
Score of 3 : Fertile. You see strong ferning patterns. Ovulation is very near or is happening. You are most fertile now when images score as a 3.
More Information
For best results:
Collect your saliva sample after waking up but before drinking any liquids OR at least 1 hour after eating or drinking. Sample should be a large drop with no bubbles.
What might interfere with results?
If you have recently been pregnant (even if you did not carry to full-term).
If you have recently been breastfeeding, using hormonal treatments, or any other treatment that may affect your cycle. This would include hormonal birth control and fertility drugs / treatments administered by your doctor.
If you are experiencing menopausal symptoms or are taking medicine that affects estrogen levels.
If any of these apply to you, please give 2 full menstrual cycles before using Ovulationclear.
