When to Do It for a Boy
Let’s face it; every couple has their preferences when it comes to the gender of their baby. While the main concern is to conceive, carry and deliver a healthy baby, some couples hope pretty hard for their boy or their girl. While it’s not an exact science, you might be able to influence whether or not you have a boy or a girl by choosing the right time t conceive.
The first thing you need to do identify when you’re ovulating. Not guess at when you might be ovulating, not sorta predict when you will ovulate, but know for certain when in your cycle you’re going to ovulate. If your cycle tends to vary, it’s going to be a challenge. Being off by even a day will totally hamper your efforts.
Start with the day of conception. For a boy, you want conception to occur while you ovulate or within 60 hours or so of ovulation. That’s because the male sperm die out faster than female sperm, and that two and a half day window is just about all the strength they can muster. On the other hand, the female sperm can live much longer. If you can conceive more than two days prior to ovulation, there’s a better chance you’ll have a girl.
What’s all this talk about boy and girl sperm, you might ask? Well, the sperm that contains the genetic code to produce a boy is different than the sperm that produces a girl. The “girl” sperm swims slower than the boy sperm, but it also tends to last longer. Hence the bigger window of opportunity.
Of course, conceiving within 60 hours of ovulation doesn’t guarantee that you’re going to have a boy, and conceiving outside of that time frame doesn’t guarantee you’re going to have a girl. Still, look at it this way: there are only two genders to pick from. No matter what you do, you’ve still got a 50-50 chance of conceiving the gender you’re hoping for, right?
