Ovulation and Getting Pregnant
Have you and your significant other decided it’s time to have a baby? If so, you might just want to start trying and let nature take its course. Or, you could be interested in tracking your cycle so you know when ovulation occurs. Doing this will help you plan the “love dance” with your significant other on the most fertile days.
Many women think they can get pregnant at any time during the month while others believe they can’t get pregnant if they do the love dance during the period. However, the truth is different for every woman and her body. Your most fertile days are when you will want to make sure you do the love dance. If you aren’t sure when your fertile days are, don’t want to keep track, but want to get pregnant then every other day or even every two days should do the trick. You should keep in mind that sperm can live inside you for several days waiting on an egg to fertilize. That seems crazy, but it’s true! That’s why you don’t have to have sex every single day to get pregnant!
Remember, though, even if you are tracking your ovulation and do the love dance every single day you aren’t guaranteed to get pregnant. Sometimes it just takes a few months to get pregnant… or it could happen the first time around.
The best thing to do is relax and have fun trying to conceive. If it takes longer than you think it should that becomes more difficult to do, but stress can play a role in conception so you should try and be as relaxed as possible.
I was one of those people who got pregnant without really expecting to so it would be great to hear from other women who have been in the same boat. Also, I’d love some feedback from women who have been doing everything “right” to get pregnant and still haven’t gotten a positive pregnancy test. Maybe we can figure out some other things to try you haven’t thought of. Check out the articles on the main site and you will find all kinds of information on different things that could be causing your infertility. Some are really easy fixes while others require treatment… still others just need to relax and be patient!
Let me hear what’s going on in your trying to conceive quest!

It’s hard to say without knowing more about your exact situation. You might consider seeking out another doctor to see if a second opinion might turn up a reason for why you haven’t conceived. There are certainly plenty of things that can inhibit conception in perfectly healthy couples and then there are other issues like infertility. Have you or your spouse been diagnosed with a specific reason for the infertility? I know this is very hard on you and unfortunately there is no magic solution. Check out the different products we sell on our website to see if any would fit with your current situation. I could recommend some products that might help you if I had a better understanding about what’s causing the infertility. Good luck! Feel free to write back!

So this might not be the right section to be asking this question, but…..I have two children already. Girls. Really had no trouble conceiving them, but this time I would like to try for a boy. Im trying to track my ovulation in order to do the “love dance” at the right time. My question is, I went off the pill in July, got my period right away. I havent gotten it again (which is a month after). Now I dont know when I am ovulating and when to “try” for a boy. How do I figure out when to try? Do I take an ovulation test every day to determine when I am ovulating? Im not in a rush but would like to start “tracking” everything asap. Thank you.

I would start tracking your temperatures and keeping a log for a couple months so you can see more or less on what day you ovulate. Giving your body a few months to get the hormones from the pill out of your system is worthwhile, too. Once you see a pattern of ovulation you can begin to try for a boy. There are certain positions that are recommended as well as doing the “love dance” on the day you ovulate. Hope it works!

Me & hubby are trying for 16 months now. Still no luck :o(
I’ve finished my last course of Clomids, so hoping to hear good news soon.
My period are supposed be come on Monday the 14th of Sept. Today I have very sore cramps, like my period are ’bout to come. And a LITTLE bit of spotting. On the Ovulation calender they say I may take a HPT today, but I’m not up to it so see another negative result. Can a HPT pick up pregnancy this early???
Good luck to you all TTC, baby dust to you all !

Hopefully this time you will be pregnant, however I wouldn’t take a pregnancy test this early. The reason why is that while some HPT can pick up pregnancy really early not all of them can and you don’t want to get your hopes up. If you feel like you are about to get your period then you might want to just wait and see what happens. Just keep trying and don’t get discouraged. You’ll get pregnant eventually and it will be a blessing!

Hi Laura! I did a HPT this morning. I know you told me not to, but I just could not hold myself. Well, at first it looked liked it was going to be negative again. So I trow it in the bin. After a while, ’bout 15minutes, I went to look again. Then there was 2 stripes. The one was light, but I could see is clearly. What does this mean? Could I be pregnant this time? The cramps are very sore and my tummy is swolling and feeling bloated.
I really hope this is good nwes. What do ou think I should do? Maybe do another test tommorow?

I would read on the back of the HPT box to see the time limit to read the test. Most of them have a small window of time to read the results. If it came up negative first and then 15 minutes later you found it and thought there might be a slight second line I would wait a few days and test again. Generally the instructions will tell you that if you see two lines after a certain period of time has passed that does not necessariy indicate pregnancy. Since you are supposed to start your period on the 14th I would wait until after you have officially “missed” your period to test. Most HPTs are not sensitive enough to pick up a pregnancy this early. Hope this helps! Baby dust!

Can you get pregnant 8 days past ovulation? if you have sex on the 8th day post ovualtion

Lesley,
The ovulation calendar is a guide to give you a rough idea when you might be ovulating. Every woman’s body is different and ovulation can take place at different times from month to month. If you are tracking your ovulation you will want to not only use an ovulatino calendar but also signs from your body, basal body temperature, and others. If you have any questions regarding ovulation please let me know.

Sophiabell,
If you ovulated and are having sex eight days later then it is not likely you will get pregnant. Usually the egg only lives for up to 24 hours after ovulation if it has not been fertilized. Generally, by eight days post ovulation a fertilized egg would be making it’s way down the fallopian tubes getting ready to implant in the uterus. Since every woman is different and the cycles vary so much you may not be aware of exactly when you ovulated and it could be before or after when you think. Of course, if you were tracking your ovulation then this may not be the case. My guess would be that you won’t get pregnant eight days after ovulation but crazier things have happened so you never know! Good luck!

Hi Nene,
Are you working with a fertility doctor to help you get pregnant? If not, you might want to consider that simply because at your age getting pregnant “naturally” is challenging for most women. There are some that don’t have any troubles, but that would be the minority. My suggestion would be to talk with a fertility doctor adn see what is the best course of action. Of course, if you are worried about missing ovulation just do the love dance every single day for a month and see what happens! Feel free to let me know if you have any additional questions!

if i have intercourse the day before my period will i get pregnant??
October 12th, 2009 at 10:39 am
Hi Tracy,
Many women get pregnant and don’t have any noticeable symptoms at first. This could be happening with you. Not all women spot when they are pregnant so just relax and take a pregnancy test when you have “officially” missed your period and maybe it will be positive! If not, good luck trying next month.

Hi Lesley,
There are no definites when it comes to getting pregnant. You may be able to get pregnant if you have sex the day before you period, but you might not. It all depends on when you ovulate and your cycle that particular month. If you are not trying to get pregnant then you need to use protection however if you want to conceive just keep trying and hopefully it will happen soon!

Hi! My husband and I are currently TTC. My period cycles are 34 to 41 days (from first day of period to next period). Right now, I am using the ClearBlue Ovulation Predictor Kit. I am on “Day 14″ and the Predictor still reads low fertility (there are four steps to the Predictor- low fertility, middle fertility, high fertility, and ovuation). Is it possible that I do not ovulate? Should I contact my doctor? Any suggestions for next step?

@Amanda
If your cycles are 34 to 41 days, you most likely not get a Fertile reading until about 14 days before your period is due - day 20 to 27.
