Ovulation and Getting Pregnant
Have you and your significant other decided it’s time to have a baby? If so, you might just want to start trying and let nature take its course. Or, you could be interested in tracking your cycle so you know when ovulation occurs. Doing this will help you plan the “love dance” with your significant other on the most fertile days.
Many women think they can get pregnant at any time during the month while others believe they can’t get pregnant if they do the love dance during the period. However, the truth is different for every woman and her body. Your most fertile days are when you will want to make sure you do the love dance. If you aren’t sure when your fertile days are, don’t want to keep track, but want to get pregnant then every other day or even every two days should do the trick. You should keep in mind that sperm can live inside you for several days waiting on an egg to fertilize. That seems crazy, but it’s true! That’s why you don’t have to have sex every single day to get pregnant!
Remember, though, even if you are tracking your ovulation and do the love dance every single day you aren’t guaranteed to get pregnant. Sometimes it just takes a few months to get pregnant… or it could happen the first time around.
The best thing to do is relax and have fun trying to conceive. If it takes longer than you think it should that becomes more difficult to do, but stress can play a role in conception so you should try and be as relaxed as possible.
I was one of those people who got pregnant without really expecting to so it would be great to hear from other women who have been in the same boat. Also, I’d love some feedback from women who have been doing everything “right” to get pregnant and still haven’t gotten a positive pregnancy test. Maybe we can figure out some other things to try you haven’t thought of. Check out the articles on the main site and you will find all kinds of information on different things that could be causing your infertility. Some are really easy fixes while others require treatment… still others just need to relax and be patient!
Let me hear what’s going on in your trying to conceive quest!

My doctor told me that I had a very high FSH level (considered menopausal) on April 7, and 3 days later, I had all the normal symptoms of ovulation. My ovulation symptoms lasted the normal amount of time as they have in the past. Has anyone experienced this? I am 41 and I’m sure I’m at least PRE-menopausal.
The last time I had a period was 10/26/2010 it roughly runs every 35-41 days. I have had periods the whole entire year. For the mth of November I didn’t receive a period and still have not have one. Tommorrow would place me at the 41 day mark. I have taken two pregnancy test one look like i t may have been positive the 2nd one I took came out flat out negative and I took iot in the morning. For the past few days I have been having brown discharge ( kind of muddy like ). I have no idea what is going on. Last time this happened I was pregnant ( I miscarried a yr ago this mth ). Do I need to take additional pregnancy test if so when? If I am pregnant was I ovulating 14 days before my missed period or is it 20 days since I have a 35-41 day span.? Please help me .
Does airplane travel have an effect on ovulation?
@Amanda
If your cycles are 34 to 41 days, you most likely not get a Fertile reading until about 14 days before your period is due – day 20 to 27.
Hi! My husband and I are currently TTC. My period cycles are 34 to 41 days (from first day of period to next period). Right now, I am using the ClearBlue Ovulation Predictor Kit. I am on “Day 14″ and the Predictor still reads low fertility (there are four steps to the Predictor- low fertility, middle fertility, high fertility, and ovuation). Is it possible that I do not ovulate? Should I contact my doctor? Any suggestions for next step?
