How Acupuncture can Assist Fertility Medications
Couples who struggle with infertility have long turned to natural methods to help them get pregnant. Whether it’s a product like Pre-Seed Lubricant, which creates a more friendly environment for sperm during and after intercourse, or whether it’s a bee pollen product that boosts a woman’s fertility, natural methods can be a boon to a couple.
One of the alternative medical techniques couples sometimes look to is acupuncture. This ancient practice has demonstrated health benefits, and has been used for thousands of years to help with a variety of ailments. Recently, there is information that suggests acupuncture can actually work well alongside conventional medications for fertility such as Clomid.
One recent study looked at two groups of women. Both received Clomid to help with infertility; one group also received acupuncture treatments as well as Clomid.
The study measured a number of fertility markers, including:
- Changes to ovulation
- Thickness of the endometrium
- Cervical mucus changes
- Follicular development
- Pelvic fluid volume
The group receiving both Clomid and acupuncture had significantly higher rates of ovulation as well as greater rates of conception when compared to the group that only received the fertility medication.
Acupuncture may help with IVF birth rates, too
Another study looked at acupuncture used in women who received in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments. They discovered that acupuncture significantly improved the ability of the egg to implant, making the embryo transfer process much more successful.
How exactly acupuncture works to help with pregnancy is somewhat of a medical mystery, but it’s one that’s coming into focus as time goes on. Another study recently looked at the actual biochemical changes that take place after acupuncture. It’s thought that acupuncture promotes the production of certain secretions in the uterus that help with implantation of a fertilized egg, and that it inhibits production of secretions that work against implantation.
So, what about you? Have you tried acupuncture to help with your fertility struggles? Did it seem to help you or not? Would you consider adding it to your fertility treatments?
