Eat Your Way to Pregnancy

The human body is a finely-tuned machine. The female body is even more so, as the delicate balance of hormones works with her internal organs to create the conditions that can produce life. The miracle of pregnancy is truly an amazing thing. It relies on so many factors to fall in line.

When you’re trying to become pregnant, it can be frustrating, too. It can be a challenge to figure out exactly how to coax the body into cooperating. We use things like ovulation charts or basal body thermometers or cervical mucus testers to try to pinpoint exactly when it is that we’re the most fertile.

One of the most important issues of balance when it comes to a woman’s body and getting pregnant is diet. The foods you take in can have a dramatic effect on whether or not you can become pregnant. Here are some of the foods that are most likely to help boost ovulation and, in the long run, help you to get pregnant:

· Monounsaturated fats. The body needs these fats to live. Trans fats and saturated fats, however, don’t do the body nearly as much good. You want to focus on the kinds of fats you’ll find in olive oil, for example, rather than the kinds you’ll find in fast foods or in baked goods.

· Vegetable protein. Your body also needs protein, both to help with ovulation and to help provide those building blocks of life when you do become pregnant. Overall, vegetable proteins, such as those found in soy, are more helpful than those found in red meat.

· High fiber foods. Foods that are high in fiber and have a low glycemic index are an important part of becoming pregnant. Stick to foods like whole grains, vegetables and fruits, rather than refined carbohydrates or sugars.

· Dairy products. A certain amount of dairy products that are higher in fat, such as whole milk, cheese and ice cream, may actually help with fertility. Don’t overdo it here, but the occasional bowl of ice cream may help the body’s delicate nutritional balance.
