Are There Better Positions For Getting Pregnant?
It is not uncommon for people who are trying to conceive to try just about anything that they can to help improve their chances of getting pregnant. From herbal remedies to meditation, there are any number of non-traditional approaches that may help couples who are having problems getting pregnant. While there is not a whole lot of research to support it, the particular sexual position that you use when trying to conceive may even affect your ability to get pregnant.
Some sex experts suggest that the best position for getting pregnant is the missionary position, with the man on top. This position typically allows for the male to penetrate the female as deeply as possible. In turn, when the man ejaculates, the sperm will arrive as close to the cervix as they possibly can, increasing the chances that the sperm will be able to make their journey to fertilize that egg. Some experts suggest that the woman should elevate her hips, such as with a pillow, to make sure that her cervix is in the best position to receive the man’s semen.
Others suggest that some other positions may help getting pregnant. The rear-entry position, for example, may also help to put the sperm closer to the cervix. In this position, sometimes referred to as “doggy style,” the man enters the woman from behind, either kneeling or lying down.
Lying side by side can be a good position for getting pregnant for some couples. This is a particularly effective position when one of the partners has problems with their back or is overweight.
Other sex experts suggest that having the woman stay laying down after sex, with a pillow under her pelvis, can help the sperm to travel, aided by the help of gravity.
Positions that are generally considered to not be helpful for getting pregnant include sex when standing, sex when sitting, or sex with the woman on the top. These positions tend to force the sperm to work against gravity.
