Omega-3 Fatty Acids And Conception

Trying to conceive can sometimes be a tricky thing.  Any number of things can cause a problem with conception.  There are, of course, the obvious things that we hear about so often, including problems with sperm count, blocked fallopian tubes, and the like.  In some cases, however, there is no apparent cause of a problem with conception.  It may be that you are trying to conceive and, while you don’t know of a problem of any sort, you would like to use every possible trick and technique to work toward your advantage.  Even the things that you eat can have an affect on your attempts to conceive.  It may be that even something like getting enough omega-3 fatty acids can help you with conception.

Omega-3 fatty acids can help you with conception in that there is some research that suggests that they help to promote natural ovulation, and to extend the portion of your cycle in which you are fertile.  Some evidence suggests that omega-3 fatty acids can help make a woman’s cycle more regular.  Certainly the benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids for a woman once she has become pregnant have been sufficiently researched.  Evidence suggests that Omega-3 fatty acids can help avoid miscarriage, as well as helping avoid certain birth defects and helping to reduce the risk that the woman will prematurely go into labor.

Omega-3 fatty acids are found in many places in nature.  One of the most common places to find omega-3 fatty acids is in fish and other seafood.  For the woman who is trying to become pregnant, however, eating fish can be a tricky thing.  There are some fish that contain high levels of mercury, which has been known to cause birth defects and other problems with a woman’s pregnancy.  Fortunately, there are other ways to get Omega-3 fatty acids, such as with a variety of nutritional supplements.  Often, fish oil supplements or flaxseed oil supplements will contain Omega-3 fatty acids.
