Getting Pregnant on a Budget

As you know by now, there have been some truly amazing technological advances in the world of fertility over the past couple of decades. What we only dreamed to be possible half a century ago is today a common fact. While not everyone who’s having trouble getting pregnant can see their dreams come through thanks to technology, a great deal of them can. Unfortunately, all of that fertility technology is expensive. Even if you have medical insurance, in many cases fertility treatments may not be covered. If you wind up choosing an advanced procedure such as IVF, you’re looking at investing thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars in the hopes that, one day, you’ll be able to have a child of your own. The good news is that many women can get pregnant without these expensive approaches. Here are some of the first things you should do if you’re having trouble getting pregnant, and they’re also some of the least costly:
  • Be patient. The majority of people who want to get pregnant will do so within a year of the time they start trying. Just because you’ve been trying for four or five months doesn’t mean you should be done trying, not by a long shot.
  • Get educated. Learn how to track your basal body temperature, how to chart your cervical mucus, and what the perfect timing is for conception. Just by doing the baby dance on the right day, you can increase your chances of becoming pregnant as much as threefold.
  • Get fit. A balanced diet and regular exercise are an important part of conception. Your body needs certain nutrients in order to create life, so make sure you’re getting a balanced and healthy diet.
  • Consider supplements. There are a number of fertility supplements on the market, and they’re really not that expensive. While they aren’t clinically tested or FDA regulated, some women have had good luck with them.
  • Talk to your doctor. Clomid is a relatively inexpensive medication these days, even if you don’t have prescription coverage. A couple months’ worth of fertility drugs may be enough to get things going.
