Do I Have a Fertility Problem?

If you are wondering whether or not you have a fertility problem then you need to get a physical exam and a complete medical history for a doctor to be able to diagnose a problem. Remember, both partners will need to be seen by a doctor when infertility is suspected. Blood tests, semen samples, ultrasounds, and even exploratory surgery in some instances may be called for.

If after the exam it is found that the woman has the problem with infertility then she will be sent to a reproductive endocrinologist, a doctor who specializes in infertility. Some of the tests that may be conducted include urine tests, blood tests, pap smear, basal body temperature charting, ultrasound, endometrial biopsy, and potentially a postcoital test.

All of these tests are designed to help determine the exact cause of infertility and determine how to treat it. The process can be long and involved, requiring many tests, drugs, and procedures, however millions of women each year submit themselves to them in the hopes of becoming pregnant.

If you have been trying to conceive for at least 12 months and have not been successful then you will want to make an appointment with your doctor. Many women find that there is something small causing infertility that may be treated once the problem is identified. Other women may have more problems to be dealt with, or both a female and male factor may be involved. A visit to your doctor will help you get the answers you need and know what options are available to you.
