Are There Specific Sexual Positions to Help in Conception?

If you are trying to get pregnant you will want to do everything possible to increase the odds of conception. Luckily, there are some positions that make conceiving easier than others. Of course, couples who don’t have any factors against getting pregnant won’t have any problem getting pregnant no matter what position they use. However, women with tilted pelvises or men with low sperm counts, or any other potential reproductive problems, could benefit from certain sexual positions that will help with conception.

One suggestion is to use gravity to your benefit. That means that you are trying to engage in intercourse in a way that will allow the sperm to be deposited as close as possible to the cervix. The closer the sperm are to the egg the better the chances of fertilization and conception.

Sexual positions you will want to avoid if you are trying to get pregnant include woman on top, sitting, bending over, and standing. Some women engaging in these positions will still get pregnant. However, it does not encourage egg fertilization because sperm is not deposited close to the cervix.

Best Position

Perhaps the very best position if you truly want to get pregnant is missionary i.e. lying down with man on top. It’s important for women to stay in this position even after intercourse is over for up to a half hour to help the sperm reach their target. Of course, healthy men and women will not necessarily have to do this, but it will certainly help move the sperm in the right direction without much interference.

Women who have a tilted uterus may need to lie on their stomachs after intercourse to give the sperm an extra boost into the cervix and fallopian tubes. If you know where the sperm needs to go and have an abnormality then do what you can to help the sperm reach their destination.
